I seem to have a gap in between the left 3 squares and the middle 3 squares when using the complex map. There is no gap between the middle and right. How can I adjust this so the squares "butt" up against each other.

Thank you for your unqualified comment! That's not the first time I installed this plugin. And I've tested it on 2 separate servers with the same result. With older version of this plugin you can see the minimap after login. You do not have to change map first with "M" to switch to the big map after login.
