Updating a server with wipes

I'm pretty new to the server hosting game, I know my basic's but I have one question that I can't seem to find the answer for.

Rust does forced wipes, do these wipes apply to externally hosted servers? If Rust does a force update will that then force my server to also be updated or is there a way that I can keep the server as is, in the instance that Rust update and pair along a wipe?

I know how to wipe my server but with the delayed patch today, I want to still wipe my server as planned but then when the Rust update does finally come, can I keep the server as is?

 

And there is no way to get around this I assume?

As I see servers that have "no wipe" in their names?

 

It means they don't do custom wipes.
And yeah, forced wipe is a forced wipe.

 

You can save all files needed then replace them after forced wipe but unless you know what you are doing its best to just go with the forced wipe its safer for you

 

What files would I need to save?

 

As I said as you are new best to wait until you learn it all before you do that

 

I know my basics. What I assume is, I save the MAP and SAV file but I really would appreciate someone confirming this for me or at least talking me through what I would do. I want to learn.
