Hi guys, I've been trying to solve this issue for almost the entire day now. I created a rust server on my local network and I can access it locally by typing client.connect from my game console, however, when I give my external IP to my friends to connect, their clients say "Connection Attempt Failed". They have also tried selecting my server from the modded server list in game and they received the same message. I have made sure that both 28015 and 28016 on UDP and TCP were forwarded on my router to the server and I have also completely turned off the firewall on my server. I have also used +server.ip 0.0.0.0 in the start bat file but it doesn't work. The server is running Windows Server 2016. Any help is appreciated!

turning off the firewall wont help you need to allow 28015 in your windows firewall
-
-
check windows firewall - turn it off for testing purpose
-
-
can your friend connect to it by direct ip ?
connect ip:28015 ?? -
client.connect 192.168.0.116:28015
I have forwarded the ports from my router to my server as well. -
i mean your ip of your internet not your local ip
Post it and ill try connect -
138.75.172.133:28015
Both should work since the url updates with my external IP -
im connecting fine with -
connect 138.75.172.133:28015
so your firewalls are open fine.
if your server is not showing in the game browser then its a steam issue.
Have u got your animal spawns turned up as i see about 8 bears in one small area.
Your server seems vanilla - but yet when i spawned i see no less than 10 bears in front of me.
W12 harbour is infested with themLast edited by a moderator: Apr 29, 2018 -
The server shows up in the game browser but it doesn't allow anyone to connect just by clicking the server from the game browser, only when they connect directly using client.connect -
Well you know your ports are working fine so erase it all and do a fresh copy

EDIT: I just installed oxide and some plugins which were freshly downloaded so try connecting from the modded server list insteadLast edited by a moderator: Apr 29, 2018 -
nope i just see one server when searching not the test server
-
I installed oxide and now the server's just starting up. Wait for it to pop up in the modded server list under the same name

i still only see one
Do u have these 2 servers running on same network ? -
The other one is hosted on a vps while the test server is hosted on my personal home server
[DOUBLEPOST=1525007610][/DOUBLEPOST]Just an update, I had two players randomly join my test server, I think that it may be because my client is located within the network so I am unable to connect to it through the game browser
