New Rust bug/exploit causing HUGE server lag

Hi folks

Just banned a Russian guy who was in a 1x1 constantly dropping rocks out of his bag.

We restrted the server twice to try and fix the lag, every time this degenerate would connect and start dropping stone.

Is this a new glitch to screw up servers? We had 70 online and now down to 20, so their annoying trick to ruin our population has worked.

So any ideas?

 

No, it is called craftingspam, there is at least one plugin against that somewhere: Craft Spam Blocker for Rust | Oxide (No clue if that is up2date, though)

Why do assholes do shit like this? Like, its friday night and for entertainment you say to yourself "Im going to connect to a rust server, and craft and drop rocks for 3 hours tonight."

 

I posted a fix in the forum thread, I believe. Haven't looked into it for a long time, though.

It's fun to fuck with people.
If there are exploits/DDoS attacks available without having to use any external programs, then that's a pretty bad shortcoming of the server (e.g. using instacraft).

 

I mean, it is your absolutely right, but fuck that exploit sounds boring. Crafting a botnet out of malware and timing a DDoS attack is far more interesting and far less monotonous. I rather play the game.

 

I have a plugin where players can "earn stars" next to their name for being "the best" at something. One of the things is crafting weapons, often see thousands of spears on the deck from people trying to earn that star.

Other than that, I can't see the point of spam crafting other than to be a dick or level up (slowly) afk.

 

Yeah pretty sure most humans tend to lean towards the "being a dick" status more. I do a bunch of network administration and system administration at my work, and there are some really easy methods in stopping and inhibiting DoS attacks. DDoS is far trickier but it can also be done if you have decent amount of funding for good hardware and you just have some good rules and filters in place. Regardless when I hear and read all these stupid script-kiddy moron's comment's who are like "hur hur I can do DoS attacks" or this prime example of mass-crafting items like a fucking retard, and then boasting about it like "im such a haxor." makes me fucking cringe. Literally takes absolutely no skill and no brain. In fact I'm pretty sure that those are the two minimum requirements to do shit like that, have absolutely no intelligence and no skill and just a fuck ton of time on your hands cause you're a worthless piece of shit.
