I need help with my server!

I just bought a server from Nitrous Networks, I have placed some plugins into the directory that they told me to put it, but when im in game and i Type /help nothing happens, it doesnt even say its the wrong command. Im kinda new to servers, I thought it would be a little bit easier than this considering its all hosted. Could someone help me set one up please, would greatly appreciate it!
