How do I get my server popular?

I just made a server, and I want it to get popular, tips?

 

For a server just started far to early to ask it might get a lot of players with what you have. Do you have any plugins custom made or just the free ones from here?

 

Get your server immediately on rust-servers, toprustservers, reddit, steam, and tell all your friends about it, then let the wait begin. Even 10 people online at the highest point of the day for the first week will be good for a start.

 

Same as above. Having it listed makes a huge difference. After taking my servers off the listing my population dropped drastically. And be sure to have a detailed but to the point description. Reddit is hit or miss. They have a specific subreddit for listing servers r/playrustservers. It's not high traffic but I've gotten some players off it. Listing it on r/playrust could just get you showered with salt. Having a voter plugin on your server also helps as it increases your position on the server listing faster.

Having a banner is also important when you list on the servers. Visuals bring clicks. Here's a tutorial on making an animated GIF in GIMP. It may not be pretty the first time around. But it gets the point across. Having a website also helps a little. You generally don't get much traffic to the site. But it raises your profile a little more.

 

Don't bother with topsites since hardly anyone uses them and if you want a decent community stay clear from reddit (very toxic.) I recommend promoting amongst friends to get a nice steady pop and grow it overtime.
