Hi, Currently im using a gameserver @ fragnet for 150 slots,
I have just increased the slots to 150 and the lagg lately and random kicks are insane,
Now im planning to raise to 250 slots because my server is skyrocketing, But im afraid the server cant keep up,
Already using a pretty small map (3.6k) And having over 100k ents weekly
Now fragnet is gonna move server to a diffrent machine today because sometimes the cpu rises to 85%,
I will lose my server IP and all my ranks on battlemetics etc and im afraid it wont help
Is it necassary to get a dedicated server to fix all lagg issues?
Cause from what i am looking at its very exspensive,
For example,
VS the 25$ i pay now monthlyCode:Intel Xeon x3450 4x2.66Ghz 8GB 500GB SATA $99 Monthly Intel E3-1230v2 4x3.3Ghz 16GB 1TB SATA3 $130.68 Monthly Intel E3-1240v2 4x3.4Ghz 16GB 1TB SATA3 $151.8 Intel E3-1240v2 4x3.4Ghz 32GB 1TB SATA3 + 120GB SSD $219.12 Monthly Intel E3-1270v2 4x3.5Ghz 16GB 1TB SATA3 $170.28 Monthly Intel E3-1240v2 or 1270 4x3.4Ghz 32GB 500Gb SATA + 240Gb SSD $178.2 Monthly Intel E3-1271 4x3.6Ghz 16GB 240GB SSD + 240Gb SSD $199 Monthly Intel E3-1271 4x3.6Ghz 32GB 240GB SSD + 1TB SATA HDD $199 Monthly
Could really use some advice![]()

Would this solve my problems? How many players could i hold? Could i run 2 servers on it?

You could easily run 2-3 servers if you go easy on the plugins. The biggest concern is with SYS since they do not offer permanent mitigation, and if you can afford it, pay the extra few bucks and go with OVH so you can get the latest hardware and not hammy downs.
Dedicated servers will always be prefered as you're not sharing resources with other servers, have more control and you don't have to worry about being blacklisted or receiving a blacklisted IP. A lot of game servers assign multiple clients to the same IP or F/O which could affect you if another server becomes malicious.
Tips
1) Always plan ahead as most providers don't allow hardware upgrades.
2) Always opt-in to DDoS protection if not already offered.
3) Always opt-in to purchasing and using additional IPs (F/O) which will make transferring your server easier in the future. *Heavily dependent on the provider.
Penny slot hosting (Game server hosting) is the most commonly used as it's far cheaper and has a control panel. Of course, you can always install your own control panel regardless which route you go. The issue with this type of hosting is it's shared. Issues with other servers could very well affect you performance wise, as well as DDoS attacks as this is a very common issue with shared hosting. The biggest downfall has to be the resource caps as the upgrading/downgrading aspect is not widely available from most providers.
Tips
1) Always opt-in to DDoS protection if not already offered.
2) Ensure you're receiving a dedicated IP and not shared IP.
3) Research the reputation and longevity of the provider as most of the newer ones that pop up tend to fail or just plain give up leaving you with very few options for the future.
Summary
Either provider is effective and this decision is based on your needs and most importantly your budget. If you're someone who just wants a temporary server to play with friends, mess around or just give it a "shot" go with game server hosting. If you're experienced, have big plans and know what it takes, get in control of your service and instead go with dedicated hosting.Last edited by a moderator: May 1, 2018 -
