1. To be blunt, there aren't enough animals on my server. Players cannot harvest food or animal fat. I've been playing with server.min/max_rate/density to no avail. I do not know if the min rate should be high or low. I've tried upping the density with some success. Which values are you guys using successfully?

I use the del command to remove animals. At first, there were 48. After waiting 10 or 15 minutes, there were 4. Another time there were none. What should I do? Is the server jammed up and should be restarted?

I tried to turn min-max density to 20-40, and rocks/hemp/etc, spawned everywhere! No animals to be found. 1 was deleted via the del command. Why aren't they spawning?

  2. spawn.fill_populations will respawn animals/nodes. You could run it on a timer... Every time I ever messed with density/rate, I crashed my server :p

  3. Well, I don't know if it was because my density settings were up, but everyone in my server lagged out and crashed. So many trees were spawning it was crazy.

  4. I am using the following:
    spawn.min_rate 10
    spawn.max_rate 15
    spawn.min_density 2
    spawn.max_density 3

    works pretty good for me.
Also add this to the server.cfg file in your server cfg folder, this will save the variable and make it work everytime the server runs.

  5. I've tried the density and rate settings set up to 40. Nodes, etc were everywhere, with the exception of animals. But I have a bigger problem now. After using the spawn.fill_populations command my server won't come back up

  6. rate sets the time for when new entities will spawn, and density the amount. So a density of 40 is a lot. These variables should be for all entities, like trees, stones and also animals and loot.

To understand your problem now, your server crashed when you changed the variable?

  7. Well, I recently switched to Linux. I enjoy working with linux, and I felt confident about my server's usage with Linux. I.e. 1400mhz consumed on my windows platform when only 200mhz were used per core running linux (same map, plugins, people, etc.). Anyway, I am easily able to get the server to start, but a few hours after placing structures/populating the server, it will open the console port but does not listen on the query/game port. After running the fill_populations command on my linux server last night, it spawned a rediculous amount of trees, ore, etc. We lagged out and the server never came back up. Basically, my problem lies in the linux ded server stability; It will launch fine if I wipe the map, but as soon as structures are placed it will refuse to restart or start (lsgm starts, but it will continue to fail the query test until it eventually crashes 20 mins late. I disabled the monitor cron job). I take the same sav file and move it to my windows server (virtual guest on the same server with 4 cores per guest, 16 physical cores E5 sandy bridge, 16gb ddr3, raid SSD array) and boom it launches. It had to clean up the excessive populations created by the linux box, but it works just fine. I'm upset at the fact I can't take advantage of linux's efficiency when running rust ded server. I'm stuck with a poop windows box. Anyway, the problem is still here. Even on windows we have no animals. I set my min/max rate/density to your settings, plus I have spawn.fill_populations set to execute every 15 minutes. No animals!
[DOUBLEPOST=1471357308][/DOUBLEPOST]Well, I'm going to chaulk this up to luck. I tried deleting animals before, but they wouldn't respawn (but may 1 or 2 some of the time). I'm using RustAdmin to delete resources, animals, and collectables. I used fillpopulations afterwards with your density settings and they finally respawned. Now I'm afraid once they're gone, they won't respawn. It seems I have to delete them to have them respawn.

  8. I have read on a forum somewhere that the servers are a little buggy running on linux, don't know if that's true, wulf could say.

I haven't tried the spawn.fill_populations variable, and I'm not sure if it actually exist. Just the settings i am using right now are fine for me.
But I think that depends on how many players you have on your server, I'm running a local server just for my friends. The map is not full of animals but they spawn nicely here and there. The problem for you is that you are probably running a server for more players, so animals run out faster. To fix this you have to changes these variables, which also makes it spawn more trees, rocks etc... but makes your server laggy as fuck.

On this reddit thread: Is there a way to increase animal spawns? • /r/playrustadmin they refer to the same variables and a command for respawning the animals which is:

    del assets/bundled/prefabs/autospawn/animals

    Try it out

  9. Thanks for helping me. To give you a little insight as to where I stand, the min/max density commands work perfectly, but not for animals. If you delete the resources/loot, you'll see many more objects spawn when upping this variable. Animals, however, will stay below 50 (maximum, usually 1-5 on the entire map). Right now I have max and min density set to 2, only because any higher than that makes something like 30ish barrels at the sattellite dish (I counted). That's way too many. Now, I've only seen 2-3 animals noclipping around the map. I guess I have no choice but to leave it at this setting since too much loot ruins the server.

My only worry now is respawning animals. Deleting animals and using the fill_populations command does not respawn animals.. The only way I can get animals on the map is by deleting assets/bundled/prefabs/autospawn/resource, animals, and collectables. This lags the server bad for a minute or so. Then, I use spawn.fill_populations and boom, animals. Granted there are not as many as there should be, it will work. I hope the server respawns them when they die at the right amount, because until I use these set of commands there are only 5 on the map most of the time.

  10. It is weird there are no animals being spawned with the rate and density variable. I will check my server when I'm home from work to see how many animals there are on my server.

Maybe you could use this plugin: Timed Events for Rust | Oxide to set a timed event, which will be the removing from animals and spawning again.

  11. Animals spawn fine for me. Just from the rate and density variable.

  12. The only command I can do to respawn animals is removal of resources, collectables, and animals. The former lags the server down to 2fps for everyone for a minute or so. People won't like that. It also will despawn the loot in front of them if they're looting. When I did that command a few hours ago, people started killing animals. My fear has come true as no animals have respawned. At least, I've traveled through most of the map and haven't found any yet.

Are they spawning somewhere else by chance? Maybe under the map?

  13. Unlikely. I think you are going to be stuck with this, just use the rate and density variables and remove the other commands or variables to default. That's what I would have done. Let's hope for a plugin that allows you to change good spawn rates for animals only.

  14. spawn.min_rate AND spawn.min_density have for sure 100% no effect on 99% of servers. These setting have only effect if you are using PopulationScaling.
Secondly. to set the spawn.max_rate to factor 15 does produce nearly instant respawn of any harvested resource....

  15. i have exact the same Problem he is not coming Online i think the spawn is to high for a linux server, can anyone help me? (here the loading spawn entities).
